Dr. Melva Williams, a Presidential Leadership Scholar, has worked in Higher Education for over 18 years. Currently, she serves as Chief of Staff for the Southern University System and formally as Associate Dean of the College at Centenary College of Louisiana.
Williams is very active in state and national service and has received numerous commendations commemorating her dedication. She is an alumna of Leadership Louisiana, 40 Under 40, and was named by the Shreveport Chamber as Top Professional of the Year and was the 2018 ATHENA Award recipient. Most notably, she was one of 61 people selected in America to participate in the Presidential Leadership Scholars program affiliated with three former American Presidents (President George H. W. Bush, President William J. Clinton, and President George W. Bush). Additionally, Dr. Williams was a featured writer in The Catalyst: A Journal of Ideas from the Bush Institute a publication by the George W. Bush Institute and selected as an Everyday Hero in 2020 by President Bill Clinton alongside former United States Secretary of State, Madeline Albright.
She is a board member for Centenary College of Louisiana, Robinson Film Center, Caddo Council on Aging, YWCA, Extensions of Excellence, co-founder of the Higher Education Leadership Foundation, CHRISTUS Hospital Board Strategy Subcommittee and Vice President of the Shreveport Charter Foundation that built Magnolia School of Excellence.
